Fits with fever

My daughter is 3 years old and had fits twice when she developed fever. Will it lead to Epilepsy when she grows up? What can I do now to prevent it, please advise?

Re: Fits with fever

Convulsions or fits are seen to occur in some children if they develop high fever and are called as Febrile convulsions. This is not going to lead to Epilepsy in adulthood. But take care that child does not develop high fever as repeated fits can result into neurological damage. Consult a doctor immediately if it happens and give the medicines as per advice. Children who develop febrile convulsions are generally given medications for a few months or years in order to prevent further attacks.

Some points you may remember in case of fever, is to give paracetamol, keep the child in a cool place and continue sponging till fever comes down.
